It feels wildly inaccurate writing what something is "about" before it's been given time to show what it truly is about, making this more of an "intentions" than an "about" page -- let's see where we're at a year from now. Having said that,
TERMINAL_LEVY
aims to be a standalone website about videogames. This means both writing about videogames and, eventually, making and releasing videogames as well. One of these has proven to be a lot more time-intensive (in my experience) than the other, but the hope is there. The other hope here is that I will not be going at it completely alone:TERMINAL_LEVY
aims to be a collaborative project. I'm lucky to know a lot of people with interesting perspectives on games & interesting ideas for games they want to make. It would be nice to be able to put in the work to turn those perspectives and ideas into tangible objects. I'm still trying to find a word for this. "Publication" and "production" make sense here, but "publisher" or "producer" evoke business practices and industry patterns to which I'd like this to be an alternative, not an emulation. I find myself gravitating more and more towards "imprint" both for its association with publishing and its connotations of marking something. At the end of a day, making a mark is all we've got.TERMINAL_LEVY
is a static website, built with Eleventy. Barring the fonts and images, this particular page is <10kb on the hard drive. All static HTML and CSS (and PNG and WOFF2, but you understand). No data collected, only data exported. The Internet as distinct places to visit for a time rather than as platforms to stay on forever is an idea that is hard to let go of, but it's an idea that takes conscious work (and a lot of people) to re-materialize. I want to see if there's something to it!TERMINAL_LEVY
is a statement of intent. Intent without anything to show for it can only matter so much, so let's give it an honest effort.
